EV Protec Type 1 to Type 2 Adapter
The EV Protec Type 1 to Type 2 Adapter enables charging of EVs with different connector standards, allowing charging from a Type 1 connector to a Type 2 charger.
Type 1 Connector (Vehicle Side):
- The Type 1 connector (also known as the J1772 connector in the U.S.) is a 5-pin plug, commonly used in older electric vehicles from brands like Nissan (Leaf), Chevrolet (Volt), and others, especially in North America.
- This connector supports single-phase AC charging (though some models allow limited DC fast charging), with a maximum current of 32A and a typical voltage of 240V (in regions like the U.S.).
Type 2 Connector (Charging Station Side):
- The Type 2 connector, commonly known as the Mennekes connector, is the European standard for EV charging. It is a 7-pin plug used for AC charging in Europe and many other regions worldwide, including Australia, Asia, and parts of the Middle East.
- It supports single-phase and three-phase AC charging, making it suitable for faster charging in regions with high voltage and higher power supply (up to 22 kW or higher for three-phase).
Adapter Functionality:
- The EV Protec Type 1 to Type 2 Adapter allows you to connect a Type 1 EV to a Type 2 charging station. This is especially useful if you are traveling or live in a region where Type 2 charging stations are prevalent (such as Europe) but drive an EV with a Type 1 charging port.
- The adapter typically has a Type 2 plug that connects to the charging station, and a Type 1 socket into which you plug your vehicle’s charging cable.
