Porsche Macan EV – 2024

The Macan SUV has been Porsche’s best-selling vehicle since 2016, and the compact luxury crossover has spawned a new all-electric model for the 2024 model year. While it bears the Macan nameplate, the 2024 Macan EV rides on a new platform that will also underpin the upcoming Audi A6 e-tron. The Macan EV’s dual-motor powertrain produces up to 630 horsepower in the top-level Turbo model, giving the crossover rapid acceleration. Yet the Macan EV should deliver significantly more range than the Porsche’s first EV, the Taycan, which currently tops out at 246 miles on a charge according to the EPA. Utilizing an 800-volt electrical architecture allows the Macan EV to charge from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 21 minutes on a DC fast charging connection, Porsche claims.

EV Motor, Power, and Performance

Both the Macan 4 EV and Turbo EV feature all-wheel drive thanks to an electric motor on each axle. While the Macan 4 EV produces a maximum of 402 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, the Turbo ups the ante to 630 hp and 833 pound-feet. The 4 tops out at a claimed 136 mph, while the Turbo will continue on to 161 mph. Both models feature air suspension with adaptive dampers, while the Turbo also makes use of Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, essentially an electronically controlled differential on the rear axle, to make the crossover feel more nimble on a curvy road. Rear-wheel steering is also optional on the Macan EV. We had the chance to drive the Macan EV in Europe and came away impressed with its performance. While the acceleration of the 4 model isn’t particularly quick, the Turbo model’s extra power gives it the neck-snapping thrust EVs are generally known for. Handling in both models proved to be quite engaging, and the Macan EV’s battery pack gives it a low center of gravity gives it a stable mid-corner feel. The steering is quick and feels natural, and the optional rear-wheel steering system shortens the Macan EV’s turning radius at low speeds and provides additional stability at higher speeds.

Range, Charging, and Battery Life

The 2024 Macan EV utilizes a 95.0-kWh battery and supports DC fast charging at up to 270 kW. This allows the battery to go from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 21 minutes, Porsche says. While the Macan EV uses an 800-volt architecture to achieve such charging speeds, it also has a novel feature that essentially splits the battery into two 400-volt units when hooked up to a 400-volt charger, allowing charging speeds up to 135 kW. The Macan EV is also capable of AC charging at up to 11 kW. Porsche has yet to reveal any EPA range estimates.
